Digital Skills for OER Sharing

PACFOLD is happy to announce the re-offering of Digital Skills for OER Sharing (DS4OERS). This course is part of the Pacific Partnership for ODFL in the Pacific.

This offer will be facilitated by the Centre for Flexible Learning of the University of the South Pacific.

Course description

This course helps teachers to improve their digital skills using Free and Open Source Software to develop teaching materials for their classroom and share these as Open Educational Resources (OER). The course is particularly suited for teachers in the Pacific Region but will be of benefit to any developing country context. It will run over 3 weeks. It will require 3-5 hours of time each week. Participants will learn from readings, videos as well as discussions with fellow teachers and mentors. A Certificate of Completion will be given to those who complete all the tasks in the course.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this micro-course, learners will be able to:

  • Reflect and connect with peers on the value of sharing open resources for education
  • Utilise the process for composing and sharing OER teaching resources for use in the classroom applying knowledge of copyright and open licenses
  • Apply the correct open license for derivative works taking legal remix compatibility into account,
  • Develop and share a printable teaching resource incorporating openly licensed images sourced from the internet.
  • Develop, remix and share a chart, diagram, or graphic organiser incorporating vector graphics.
  • Develop, remix and share a static image audiographic as video files.
  • Design, share and publish a lesson plan incorporating OER teaching resources.
  • Provide recommendations for building national and regional communities of OER practitioners.

Course Details

This is a hands-on, activity-based course in which teachers will complete:

  • Enabling activities covering: what constitutes an OER, Creative Commons licensing, attribution, and remix compatibility.
  • Four digital skills learning challenges to develop teaching resources for use in the classroom:
    • Open image challenge
    • Vector chart or diagram remix challenge
    • Static audio graphic remix challenge
    • Lesson plan challenge

Certification

Participants who successfully achieve the six digital badges for the DS4OERS course will receive a PDF Certicate of Completion.
